Cax,

<< the 5500 which includes HDR. Should see production shipments in Jan or Feb. >>

That is probably optimistically realistic.

It is interesting that within the last week the text of the webpage on the Qualcomm site for the MSM5500 has changed. Until now the page has stated:

"Samples are scheduled for the second quarter of 2001 with production quantities scheduled for the third quarter of 2001."

That was an identical statement to that made in the original November 1999 Press Release on the product which was repeated on October 26, 2000.

The July 09, 2001 Press release announcing on time sampling of the MSM5500 also stated:

Production quantities of the MSM5500 solution are expected to be available in the third quarter of calendar 2001.

Going from sampling to production in that time frame always struck me as pretty aggressive particularly since we are really dealing with an entirely new technology, as did statements that "commercial launches [are] expected in late 2001", which has been used in some whitepapers

We have recently seen a statement that "pre-commercial' MSM-5500 chips are available which I have taken to mean engineering samples, possibly with some patches applied.

... all of which is positive.

It is possible I would think that we might see the chip actually used in "some pre-commercial rollouts in the fourth calendar quarter of 2001" ...

The [CompaqCompaq Evo c Series notebooks] with CDMA2000 1xEV MultiPort module is expected to become available for use in CDMA2000 1xEV pre-commercial rollouts in the fourth calendar quarter of 2001. This product is expected to be made commercially available by Compaq in the second calendar quarter of 2002.

cdg.org

... or worse case Q1 or Q2 2002.

Best,

- Eric -
