TD Boosts Share Sale to Pay for Waterhouse by 14% to C$400 Mln
By Frederic Tomesco

Toronto, Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Toronto-Dominion Bank, Canada's No. 2 bank, increased by 14 percent to C$400 million ($256 million) the amount it plans to raise in a share sale to finance the purchase of TD Waterhouse Group Inc. stock.

TD filed a preliminary prospectus to sell about 10.96 million shares in Canada, the bank said in a release distributed by Canada Newswire. At today's closing price of C$37 a share, that's worth C$405.5 million. TD had initially said Wednesday that it planned to sell C$350 million in stock.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards the bank's $409 million offer to buy back the 12 percent of discount brokerage TD Waterhouse it doesn't already own. TD Securities, the bank's investment-banking arm, will handle the share sale.

Toronto-based TD didn't specify why it increased the amount of money it plans to raise from the share sale or when the sale will take place. TD officials weren't immediately available for comment.
