But TS, really, Galileo's observations were not "expressly contrary to the Holy Scripture." One of the central reasons we had a Reformation was precisely because the Roman Church had inserted traditions,( including philosophical traditions concerning a heliocentric universe) and placed them above Scripture. Now Darwinian evolution does contradict Scripture, but then it's not scientific either, it's a philosophical alternative to God, and not a very good one at that.
