O.T. # 2743

Dear Wayne,

The quick and dirty of what was reported here is as follows:

1. The Mayor and the Prince attended a memorial service where the $10 million check was offered and accepted as a humanitarian gesture. The Prince is quoted as saying the terrorist attack is a "tremendous crime" and that "O.B.L. does not belong to Islam."

2. Subsequently, the Prince in a written statement said," At times like this one we must address some of the issues that led to such a criminal attack. I believe the government of the U.S.A. should re-examine its policies in the Middle East and adopt a more balanced stance toward the Palestinian cause."

3. The Mayor later rejected the check and condemned the statement made by the Prince. I do not have a full copy of the text of the statement.

This then was the basis of my comment.

Best Regards,
