New York has several Rabbis who converted from Christianity, including Rabbi Cowan, who has written widely. There are also black congregations in New York led by Rabbi Levy ben Levy.

Here is a picture of New York's 5 or 6 top black Jewish Rabbis at the time their organization started growing:

You may also want to investigate some of the Jews of Color organizations, and read something of the up and coming "star", a brilliant young black Jewish woman named Yavilah McCoy:
