I think there's been a provocative element in your posts about women and the Presidency, yes. It may be helpful to remember your audience here: the women are all in the mid forties or older and most of us have graduate degrees. We've both been there and done that for years now. Conversations like "would you vote for a woman for President" and "what is the extent of the radical feminist influence" were the stuff of our college days and, as you can see, are met with the cyber-equivalent of eye-rolling.
About the question of gender differences in argumentation, I think I addressed that a bit in my previous answer to you, filled it out a little more in my response to Laz Long earlier.That said, I think you need to read X the Unknown's posts a bit more closely if you're under the impression she doesn't challenge members of both sexes. :-)
don't think guys feel any kind of bond to masculinity in general. I know that I regard a lot of guys as hopeless dorks, and when I get the chance I point
that out to them. But I think that women do feel a bond to sisterhood or womanhood in general. The mere fact of "feminists" (there being no formalized
"masculinists") suggests that, and may be explainable by the long tradition of men oppressing women (for a bibliography on that, check with "X.")
First, I read your comment about X as snide.
Second, I see "masculinism" as the equivalent of 'white power" movements. Unnecessary.
Women are nicer people. Women care more. Women are gentler and kinder. Women smell better and look better. So I can totally understand why they don't want to start fighting each other.
I disagree. I've known women, both in real life and on SI who are extraordinarily vicious. They just hide it better than men.
This may surprise you, but if a qualified woman runs for president I will be likely vote for her.
Nope, I'm not surprised at all. Clearly you like bright women, evidenced by a partnership with a well-educated and well-spoken wife. Not to mention our own friendship. -g |
