One can speculate, but were raised as Americans and we accept/respect authority but also have a more balanced understanding of right and wrong and justice. We know that sometimes authorities are doing or have done wrong. In Germany the common folks just accepted you did what authorities told you to do and you did not resist. The authorities never did wrong. The idea to resist simply did not occur to them. It was the cultural mindset.

Today many of the poor in Afghanistan and Iraq and many other countries have a similar mindset. Those with the psycochemistry that allow them to be dissident seem to get sucked into to wiles of wackos.
