I have long wondered when the "fight" for Kazakh oil would begin. Imo it began Sept. 11. If the Russians can get the US to do a lot of their dirty work in Central Asia then so much the better for them. A few isolated US divisions in the "Stans" may ultimately pose less threat to them than "Sunni" Islamic fundamentalism and it's incipient theocracies do.

Imo ME oil fields cut off or in flames redounds to the benefit of the Russians as they have the only pipelines available for the export of Kazakh oil. Is the Russian "alliance" with us a mere dalliance before an Iranian/Russian alliance is exposed? Does Shiia Iran have designs on the Saudi Holy sites?

Remember the great weakness of the US armed forces is OIL!! We no longer have the "Black Giant" of East Texas to fuel our millitary machine. Without oil, it grinds to a halt.
