I am not sure we can call the Chinese fundamentalists in the sense it was meant, and generally means, just because they were horrible in many ways. We don't call Hitler a fundamentalist. Son of Sam was not a fundamentalist. I expected this response ("they were fundamentalist communists," a term which I have never heard used before) and was going to mention it prophylactically in my previous post.
Perhaps you mean safety lies with moderates, who are willing to compromise as a matter of principle and political procedure. I am pretty much that way in my life in practice. I would rather get as much done as possible, while putting up with stuff that I don't want to put up with, rather than alienate people who might work with me.
