Dozens of people were murdered tonight, some by family, some by friends, some by complete strangers for no good reason. Dozens more were killed in senseless car wrecks and dozens more in other accidents.

And we are supposed to go nuts over a marginal threat and "vaccinate" everyone with the 18-month treatment required to be effective at all?

"Could get worse" was the rallying cry for Y2K until it was clear that reasonable measures prevented a calamity much better than panic. Maybe all that Spam and bottled water in the underground shelters finally came in handy at a BBQ this summer.

And the Y2K stocks had spiraled into oblivion, FWIW.
