Dale, all I said was, "Question: Is 'Muslim Extremist' a redundant expression?
So it would seem, looking at the response to current events from around the Muslim world."
Look! I'm sorry if it appears that I'm trying to smear the Muslim population. Nothing could be further from the truth. The virtual Nation of Islam is not collectively responsible for the attack on September 11th. The Muslims of the U.S. feel the pain we feel as well as the further pain of knowing that the perpetrators used their shared religious precepts as their public motivation for mass murder. THAT'S GOTTA AT LEAST MAKE ONE FEEL QUEASY IN THE STOMACH!
But that still does not change the fact that the MOST VOCAL OF MUSLIM PEOPLE, not governments, not those who remain silent, around the world see bin Laudin as a living religious Icon. Many even believe that Israel committed the atrocity on September 11th to foster hate for Islam. And, it also does not change the fact that many private Muslim schools in Pakistan, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Saudi Arabia teach hatred to children as a matter of religious principal.
My opinion matters very little in the overall scheme of things, but after soaking up a months worth of information on the issue, I do feel that the greater Muslim population (not all) in many countries around the world, such as the ones listed above, Indonesia and others too numerous to list here are out of touch with western views, have a misplaced faith in bin Laudin and are, to say the least, somewhat extreme in their position with bin Laudin and the Taliban considering the facts we know in this conflict.
That belief is probably due, in no small part, to the virtual silence from those Muslims of an opposing view.
There! Now it's no longer a question. It's simply "a crass generalization based on the facts about the Islamic population around the world." - Dale Baker
