I'm beginning to think that those who have given considerable thought to religious issues and have concluded that they are agnostic or atheist are often far more respectful of the rights of others than the religious among us.

And I'm saying this as a person of Christian faith.

It's intellectually seductive, as a member of a religious group, to feel as though one's beliefs give him or her moral superiority. They don't, IMO, religious beliefs provide a framework, nothing more.
