This is one argument that "Islam" is the answer for these people. If they cannot or will not accept modern democratic institutions and insist on overpopulating lands with scant resources, then the middle eastern muslims might well psychologically do better under a theocratic regime which de-emphasizes material wealth as a yardstick of personal happiness. Waging war on the west would also give the disaffected masses something to focus on, apart from their corrupt and autocratic leaders.

By the way, the fact that many people in the region live under corrupt moderate arab regimes, has nothing to do with U.S. support for those regimes. They'd live under such conditions (or worse) reagrdless of U.S. involvement in the area. The common people there need the will to live otherwise, and they simply do not have it...
