Hitler's reasons, I believe, were economic rather than religious though he used religion to further his cause.

You can argue whether Hitler's mad vision of a master race and a thousand year reich and the triumph of the folk wil was religious or not. But it certainly wasn't mere economics.

And Hitler didn't torture his own people -- if they obeyed the reich in word, deed, and thought (thought control being the distinguishing mark of modern totalitarian regimes, as opposed to ancient tyrannies). If you were opposed to the reich in any way -- Communist, labor leader, intellectual -- or didn't fit into the vision -- homosexual, mentally retarded -- you were shipped off to the camps.
