On Imus the following morning, Chris Matthews (whom I am not a fan of) said essentially what Assena is saying. He kept criticizing his use of the term "evildoers". I also have read a column or two criticizing Bush for his use of language suitable for western movies but not diplomacy. A statesman must be very careful to choose his words carefully and know in advance what they might mean in the language of the person he is addressing. For example, JFK once used a phrase that included something like "Mr. Kruschev miscalculated....". In Russian this was translated to something that indicated that Krushchev was stupid and couldn't add...... Caused a stir for a while until the problem was understood and "miscalculate" was stricken from diplomatic exchanges....
