It does seem like a pretty bizarre statement to make. Especially, amidst the rubble and despair of New York. At the very least it's incredibly insensitive.
Although I am by no means an expert on the Saudi Arabia, I agree, Saudi Arabia is a problem. So is the entire Middle East for that matter. I really don't see "Israel" or "religion" as being the main problem there, as much as I believe it's related to ignorance, power, money and tradition. The wealthy of the region seem to be using religion and Israel as a conduit to get what they want. Namely, power, influence, land, and of course the oil fields. Arab on Arab conflict seems to be just as common as Arab vs Jew.
The disparity between wealth among the Arab world is truly profound, and unless democracy gives birth, it seems likely to continue as the years pass. Intelligent, educated Saudi's must realize this, but are afraid to take the ginnie-out-of-the-freedom bottle.
Freedom and liberty scare the heck out of these Royal family types, who see their influence and wealth going down a similar road as European aristocracies.
Bin Laden undoubtedly wants to control Saudi Arabia and the rest of the oil fields, the same way Hussien did. And he's using religion and the Taliban army to achieve his objective.
Like many foreigners who observe the continuous arguing, bickering and political fire-fighting in the U.S. and then make assumptions about our togetherness. He grossly miscalculated the unity of America when threatened. We will not leave the Middle East and cower into an isolationist mood. And he's a fool to believe otherwise.
We will now pursue him and his cowardly followers to the end of the earth, never let them rest, never let his organization feel safe, and never allow this attack to go unchallenged. Appeasement is not in our blood as Americans. And whether it is this year, or 10 years from now, we will not forget what has been done to our citizens on American soil.
No one attacks America on American soil and get's away with it! |
