You know, I have a theory-
I frequently have them-usually without factual basis, but who cares-
I think we are getting pissed. The initial shock has worn off, and the fear is slowly being absorbed and turned into anger- personal and national.
We wondered this weekend if, after that Thursday night warning about more attacks in the next few days, there would be a resurgence of cancellations, more people cowering at home, but the flights were full and today LAX seemed almost at normal business levels.
I was very nervous several weeks ago when I flew to the East Coast and the plane was nearly empty; I checked everyone around me in case they were wearing a nametag that said, "HI! I'm a Terrorist!" and I kept my blanket unfolded in my lap, thus armed and ready to take down any suspicious characters by leaping on them and suffocating them.
But this morning when I heard that latest propaganda speech by bin Laden's little henchman--"Planes will rain down-yadayada- America will be defeated-If you are Muslim, don't get on a plane or live in a tall building", I cringed, and then I thought, "You SOBs, I'm tired of you and I'm not going to let you do this to me." I felt angry. And that anger carried me through the trip with not one nervous qualm.
Of course I had Boomer to protect me, too.
CW said he felt that same sort of emotion last night when he went to a Comedy Club and at the end of the evening the emcee came out and thanked the audience, saying, "It's a difficult thing to get out and laugh right now, but we believe it's one of the best things we can do--get right back in there, live our lives, and send a big F-U to those who want to destroy us." And the audience stood up and cheered. |
