Williams Industries, Inc. Expands Manufacturing Operations; Increases Segment Employment by Nearly 60%
MANASSAS, Va., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Williams Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: WMSI - news) today announced the geographic expansion of its manufacturing operations with the addition of a 300,000 square foot facility in Alabama. This facility will be dedicated to steel bridge girder fabrication. The company also announced the assumption of an existing workforce, which will increase the Williams Industries' manufacturing personnel by nearly 60%. The new plant, which is being leased from Arkansas Steel Processing Inc/Alabama, a subsidiary of Skyline Steel Corp., is located in Bessemer, Alabama.

The Alabama facility, with supervision and management from Williams Bridge Company personnel, will allow Williams Industries, Inc. to take advantage of expanding business prospects and anticipated heavy spending for bridges and other infrastructure projects. It also will provide additional capacity and labor to help alleviate the current manpower shortage that exists in Williams Bridge Company's Manassas and Richmond, Virginia plants.

Frank E. Williams, III, the company's CEO and President, said ``This is a win-win situation for Williams Industries. By leasing the Alabama plant, with an option to buy the facility at a later date, we are able to avail ourselves of an immediate expansion in both capacity and workforce with minimal capital outlays. The Bessemer facility, which is equipped for immediate manufacturing operations, will give Williams Bridge Company the ability to handle existing customer needs more readily while simultaneously positioning them to be the premier bridge fabricator in the Eastern United States. Under the lease terms, Williams Bridge will complete several projects already in the Bessemer facility. This should provide immediate income and the utilization of the work force during the months of transition.''

The subsidiaries of Williams Industries, Inc. provide a wide range of quality, cost competitive services and products for the industrial, commercial and institutional construction markets. The construction and manufacturing services include: steel and precast concrete erection; miscellaneous metals installation; the fabrication of welded steel plate girders; rolled steel beams, and light structural and other metal products; the construction, repair and rehabilitation of bridges; crane rental, heavy and specialized hauling and rigging; and a wide range of insurance services.
