I knew I would like your wife!!!
My Emily who is in 7th grade, at a private school, ask if she could go to Homecoming this past weekend with her friend. Sherry is in 8th grade at the public school, although she is only actually about 7 weeks older than Emily. When Sherry ask Emily to see if she could go. Emily told Sherry, "there is no way, I know my mom is going to say NO." Emily did not argue with my decision, accepting it with a pretty easy, "I knew that is what you would say." At least Emily knows where her dad and I stand on these things. A consistency that gives her the knowledge to know what we will agree to and what we will not agree to. I think birth order comes into play in this situation. Emily is the oldest of 4 children. Sherry is the youngest of 4 children. I am sure that Sherry went to the homecoming dance in a dress that I would find inappropriate for my 13 year old, and as you put it, "full make-up" (or is it fool-makeup??) Emily did not go to home-coming. Instead she stayed home, (where she belongs). We ordered pizza and wings, and rented movies. It was a nice little family type night. |
