LOL, That was a paraphrase of what a lot of people say about the bible, only there's one extraneous feature to it. If God says something it is settled, whether you or I, believe it or not. Of course, that does assume what the bible says, is also what God says. That is certainly what it claims to be, and that is (unlike the book of Mormon) open, to at least a certain degree of verification historically. For instance the manuscript evidence, disputes the claims that the original text has had any substantive changes made to it over the years as is often claimed. History and archaeology also make a strong affirmation to the veracity of the biblical texts a being historically accurate documents.
I know quite a few Mormons and treat them with the same respect I afford anyone else. The evidence on the other hand is pretty clear that Joe Smith simply made the book of Mormon up entirely, (except for the portions he lifted directly from the king James Bible), out of his head. The biggest problem with Mormonism, is that it is simply, untrue. Any attempts to verify the historical claims of the book of Mormon have either failed entirely or are so desperately weak that they leave one just shaking their head in amazement. I know you see Mormonism and Christianity on much the same level, but if you take a closer look, I think you will find that quite literally, they are on different planets. |
