Samsung's Technology Group, HCI Lab, Selects Fonix to Integrate Speech Solutions for Korean Voice Products
SALT LAKE CITY and SEOUL, Republic of South Korea, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Fonix® Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: FONX - news), a leading provider of natural-user interface solutions for wireless and mobile devices, Internet and telephony systems, and vehicle telematics, and HCI Lab, a venture company of Samsung Electronics that focuses on human and computer interaction, today announced the signing of a collaboration agreement. As part of the agreement, HCI has licensed Fonix Text-To-Speech (TTS) for use in its development platforms and solutions. HCI and Fonix will also collaborate to develop and integrate speech solutions and products using the FAAST® Framework for both Korean and English applications for telephony-based systems and wireless, mobile computing devices and automotive telematics markets.

``Fonix technology and the FAAST framework provide extremely advanced English TTS and speech solutions,'' said Lee Gye Ho at HCI Lab. ``We have worked consistently over the last several years to deploy the best speech solutions in the marketplace. We are confident that the FAAST TTS framework will allow us to optimize and fully integrate the Korean and English TTS systems. The time is right in Korea for the deployment and acceptance of powerful telephony applications using Fonix TTS solutions, particularly in the English language.'' FAAST provides powerful API's to work across a variety of engines and platforms.

``HCI is a market-leading developer of solutions and applications for more effective human interaction with technology,'' said Dr. K.H. Loken-Kim, Vice President and General Manager, Asian Operations, Fonix Corporation. ``Fonix TTS and the FAAST Framework fit seamlessly into HCI's multifaceted architecture. HCI is an ideal company for us to extend our market reach and to deploy our FAAST Framework on a global scale. They produce a top-quality Korean TTS that, together with Fonix TTS, will provide enhanced customer flexibility and options.''

Under the terms of the joint agreement, HCI will market, sell, and implement Fonix TTS in its speech solutions, and in turn, Fonix will integrate HCI's Korean TTS in offerings to customers.
