I think relativist means different things to different people. As I said before I think that causes some of the confusion when were are talking about moral relativism. It could mean anything from thinking all morality is just a matter of opinion and that one opinion is as good as another to believing in some moral absolutes but thinking some things are relative.

Also its not just a matter of how relativist or absolutist you are. An absolutist could be someone who thinks moral ideas apply in every situation, or someone who thinks they exist apart from human opinion and perception of them. Thus a relativist could be someone who thinks what is right and wrong changes by the situation, or someone who thinks that ethical ideas have no existance apart from our ideas about them or someone who thinks one persons ideas as just as good as anyone elses in this area.

Unless we are going to come up with different words for each general cateogry of meaning for both these words they will generate some confusion. Maybe I can atleast try to keep strait how each person I converse with about these things defines the terms, but that can be difficult. In any case I think I am done talking about the issue for now unless someone's post inspires me to respond.
