I think the average American would easily/gladly cut back, as you say, or pay more for mideast-free oil.

I'm remembering the 'oil crisis' of the 70's and I have to say I'm not sure the 'average' American will switch mindset easily.

Side note: 'The Coming Global Oil Crisis' - just happened along this link. Have not read it yet, no opinion.

Conservationists might be delighted with the long term outcome of all this, and no, I don't think there is a long term outcome with any certainty yet!

Back to oil use reduction, so many of our cities are completely geared to cars, and so many of our citizens are completely chained to same. How many of us will hop in the car to head to a corner or local grocery store that is less than 10 blocks away to pick up a carton of milk. Or smokes. Or condoms LOL

Too many of us, I think.

Lets all buy bikes!
