I was just reading up on smallpox. No known treatment because it's a virus. Doesn't need a disease vector, it's contagious. Very lethal - 30% of cases.

Not sure whether Europeans are still more resistant. As we know, American Indians migrated to the Americas before smallpox became endemic in Europe, so they had no natural resistance, and had a much higher casualty rate. I believe that Africans also lacked natural resistance, to a lesser extent.

It is unknown how long immunity via vaccination lasts. US does have stockpiles of emergency smallpox vaccine.

We could always do it the old fashioned way, with cowpox.
