Living out in a cranny of the Columbia River Gorge where the fastest available modem connection is 26kb, I use DirecPC for my quotes. Although there is a half-second lag involved, I have adjusted my style: I no longer get into trades wherein half a second makes a difference.

There are some other problems with DirecPC, though. The main one is that it sometimes takes several seconds to connect to a new server (website, quote feed, whatever). Once the connection is made, the bandwidth is fine (350-500kbs), but making the initial connections often tries my patience. For instance, it takes a good 15 seconds for my initial Ravenquote workspace to load. On my old DSL in Portland, Oregon, it took maybe two seconds.

But it's a helluva lot better than a 26k modem!
