John,

AMD is risking whatever consumer brand equity they had on a confusing, discretionary standard. The consumer isn't going to buy it, and they are not going to buy AMD.

Confusing, discretionary - maybe, but honest.

I am not going to say that Intel is doing anything dishonest, but because of the circumstances, Intel is in position to sell shitty systems (P4 + 845) to people who think that they are buying medium or even high end systems.

So some Intel folks are basically hoping that ignorance will reign, and Intel will profit from it. (That's my interpretation.) It is very far from some high minded consumer advocacy.

Why are you so defensive about it? I thought you had recognized it as BS.

Did I? I don't need AMD rating to decide which processor is better, I can just go to Tom's and Anand's sites (or others). But I don't recall calling it a BS. AMD has a very good processor on their hands, so they are just marketing it as such.

Joe
