Hi Greg:
Opinions are not worthy of respect as such, only those that are well-reasoned and evidenced. Even these can turn out to be wrong. But progress is impossible without honest criticism.
I'm no Biblical scholar. I know that there are, contained in the New Testament at least, prohibitions against homosexuality. But the Bible contains contradictions. I know that the various Gospels, for example, are not entirely consistent in their accounts of the life of Christ.
I look at The Bible as having been written by people, doing their best to understand God. In so doing, it's no wonder that there could be, in fact perhaps there must be, confusion, misunderstanding. I think, on the issue of homosexuality, there has been a misunderstanding of what God had in mind. |
