Here is a synopsis of why these stocks were added to the Zacks #1 Ranked List:

L-3 Communications Holdings (LLL): L-3 provides secure wireless and satellite systems for jets and destroyers. L-3 has had several positive earnings surprises with strong EPS momentum and improving operating margins. The company's stock has received a boost from the recent and proposed future increases in defense spending and its sales will improve with the completion of acquisition of Canada's Spar Aerospace.

Rambus Inc. (RMBS): Rambus' chip-to-chip interface technology has been providing the company with excellent earnings surprises. Upwards earning revisions for the third quarter were in the magnitude of 225% and, for the next quarter, the company amended its forecasts upward in the amount of 300%. Rambus entered into a comprehensive cross-licensing agreement with Intel that provides strong visibility into the future.

Here is a synopsis of why these stocks have a Zacks Rank of 2 (Buy):

American Home Products (AHP): American Home Products has had consistent earnings back to 1994. The pharmaceutical company recently declared a dividend and entered a co-marketing agreement for a new flu with Aviron that will be delivered in line with predictions.

Sara Lee (SLE): Sara Lee has had some recent positive earnings surprises and a couple of hiccups that will be redressed through its "Project 2000" program and is restructuring its cost structures. It issued upward revisions for December of this year and will benefit from accounting changes from the FASB. The company invested in itself in the wake of September 11th through a stock buyback, which is often a precursor to solid price appreciation on the horizon.
