Actually, "Puff" was the unofficial designation given to the first C-47 which were outfitted with mini-guns during Vietnam for interdiction and suppression missions.

But practically everyone I've known refers to the Spectre as "Puff" as well...

It just kinda fits the image of a fire-breathing dragon...

I once was chatting with a guy who had been a gun loader for the 105mm cannon in back. He said everytime they fired off a round from that cannon, the pilot would have to kick on the rudder to compensate for the force of the recoil. If he didn't, the back of the plane would "skid" 30-45 degrees off their course and make them fly diagonally...

And so far as I'm concerned, it probably one of the greatest assets we have there. I might even have to rethink my logic about whether night vision and thermal imaging will prove to be the decisive weapon in this war. Of course, without them, "Puff" really couldn't do it's job properly...
