You are not quite clinical enough in your description of Western military behavior.

"Traditional war is more about display, intimidation and honor, while modern war is more about efficiently breaking things and killing people."

The US military is trained to "break things and hurt people", dead soldiers are just left on the battlefield, wounded soldiers stop attacking and also take two or three additional soldiers off the firing line.
