This social element is true of animals too (especially more advanced ones). There are definitely courtships that if done wrong or ineptly that will not result in a successful mating of other mammalian species.

I don't doubt that we think about it more than most animals (in an abstract and symbolic way), but I wouldn't call that a fundamental difference. There are homosexual acts (and couples) in nature, there are heterosexual acts in nature and there are self-stimulation activities in nature.

If I was to say anything was different is that humans can objectify sexuality and sublimate it to the point where the object isn't really a sexual object any more (except in the most abstract terms). I think fetishism is probably close to being unique, except that now that I'm thinking about it, I've seen dogs hump sofas.

So, no, I don't think you've pointed out a fundamental difference. Want to try another aspect?
