Captain,

Before WW2 America was not a super power and was very Isolationist. The war in Europe started in 1939, in Asia and Africa it had begun as early as 1936.

The pacifist/isolationist movement was led by a number of celebrities, not the least of which was Charles Linbergh.

After Pearl Harbor this movement fell apart.

Two questions for the anti-establishment anti-war types (who grew out of a very muddled war in Vietnam):

How many Americans have to die, to justify a military response? (Obviously biowarfare and the twin towers are not enough).

What make you think that negotiations would work with bin Laden or Saddam Hussain?

Now lets transpose your beliefs to the late 30's and ask the following:

Would you have 'negotiated' with Hitler?
