How do you feel about killing children as a consequence of a misplaced bomb? Is that also a matter of being "practical"?

Its an awful thing to happen, but it isn't immoral if care was taken to avoid having any of the bombs kill innocents and if there is a very good reason to have targeted the bomb there in the first place.

If you will not use any force that might kill any one who is innocent then you will not use any force to defend youself or your friends against any large group with powerful weapons, or atleast you will not be able to use any effective force. If you use a powerful weapon you create a risk that innocent people might be hurt, but if you refuse to use a powerful weapon you are putting youself in position to lose. If you make it impossible for yourself to be able to fight against agressors then why even try to fight. If good people don't even try to fight you let evil people decide everything.

[Edit: I didn't see your other post. I do think that it is both the quantity and the ratio. How about 10 civilians for every Taliban : a more likely ratio.

I'm not sure that is the ratio if you count civilian Taliban officals as Taliban and not civlian. Esp. if you only count the direct effects of our bombs and missiles and not the people killed by the Taliban shooting at us and missing, or by an attack by factions within Afghanistan trying to take over from the Taliban.

Also you have to consider more then just the number of Taliban or Al-Qaida that are killed. A more important consideration is how many lives are saved by reducing Al-Qaida's capability and showing other states that do or might support terrorists what could happen to them. In the long run, if we handle this right and get just a bit of luck, that could add up to a whole lot of lives.
