"Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger defended the Israeli operation: "No sovereign state can tolerate indefinitely the buildup along its borders of a military force dedicated to its destruction and implementing its objectives by periodic shellings and raids" (Washington Post, June 16, 1982)."
"Sound familiar"?
Yes! It seems to be an unintentional profile of Israel's illegal military buildup--and that includes illegal weapons of mass destruction such as bioterrorist weapons, chemical, and nuclear weapons.
I guess good old even-handed Kissinger would therefore justify Egypt, Syria, Labanon, Jordan and Iraq pre-emptively striking at war mongering Israel on their borders or vicinity,. No, no, we know better than that, don't we! The words were not a general principle but rather unique for that invasion only. Kissinger's words were self-serving and meant only for justifying, for the moment, Israel's illegal invasion, and subsequent war crimes against Lebanese civilians. |
