My computer is sick. MicronPC Celeron 700 winME ZoneAlarm CA antivirus. On boot up it loads the programs and then very shortly reboots. Goes thru scan disk and the same sequence over and over. I reinstalled ME last night but no help. The techie at Best Buy is 99% sure it is a virus or badly corrupted files, and wants to restore to the leaving factory state. I of course don't want to loose all my installed programs and data.
Wondering if I bought a new HD or perhaps even a new machine
could I use the old drive as a slave and selectively copy to the new C drive, or heaven forbid the virus jumps from the slave to the master?
He also suggested letting them run a virus check and perhaps back up the data and copy back to the drive.
My hope is that it is just a loose connection or something like a bad power supply.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am also planning to upgrade to winXP so that is one consideration for replacing the computer.
Thanks
