Vip: From what little I'm hearing about Schmidt from the tech analysts who seem to know his history, he's the right one for this job--it just remains to be seen if his predecessors have let it get too far for him to get a handle on it. But the consensus does seem to be that if anyone can do it, he can. Eddie's been holding Novell a long time, probably longer than any of us, and he's still got some hope and I, too, think there's light at the end of the tunnel. It's really hard to believe that Novell can't compete--if Novell flops, then I don't think any stand-alone software company will ever again amount to much as long as Microsoft is still there. And I've never thought Microsoft was the only game in town. :)
