I agree that browsing over GPRS can be painful. However, living in GSM-land there is no immediate prospect for anything better while mobile. Part of the cause of the slowness is the long latency associated with the networks I have tried - it may be inherent in the technology. This means that the full bandwidth is seldom approached while browsing, even during the night when there is no network congestion. In contrast, FTP transfers do approach the theoretical bandwidth in uncongested areas and times.

I know what a good internet connection can be like as I have ADSL to an excellent service provider at home.

However, is the user of a PDA really going to have problems with GPRS data rates?
