BTW, all, a few comments were made last year when Acer announced that they would not be including the Zip drive in the Acer Basic. My threadfellows will recall that the Acer Basic was an "internet terminal," basically a cheap, low-powered computer capable of doing nothing but surfing the Net. Acer had been planning to sell hundreds of thousands of them, each equipped with a Zip drive as the only storage.
When they announced that they wouldn't be including Zips, many people thought it was a real blow to Iomega. I remember Kim Edwards discussing that in a conference call. He said Iomega was working with Acer on including Zip in other SKUs.
I haven't seen any mention of this, so I thought I'd point out that the Zip appears to now be standard on a number of Acer computers. They're real computers, though, not internet terminals. Actually, I haven't heard anything at all about the Acer Basic since that Zip announcement. Hmmm.
Anyway, there's a new computer store in Manhattan, across the street from the Fifth Avenue CompUSA. They are heavily featuring Acer. Many of the PCs on display, as well as those in their flyer, have an internal Zip standard. Once again, Kim Edwards delivers.
