ActivCard Launches Next Generation ActivPack Authentication Server
ActivPack Delivers a Radius and Tacacs+ Compliant AAA Server for Enterprises And Service Providers, Capable of Supporting a Variety of Smart Cards And Token Devices
SURESNES, France and FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- ActivCard (Nasdaq: ACTI; Nasdaq Europe) a leading provider of smart card and digital identity provisioning products and technology today announced the immediate, worldwide availability of its ActivPack Authentication server. This high performance server delivers strong, two-factor authentication to protect remote access, VPNs and e-business applications throughout the enterprise.

ActivPack features a number of advancements in the company's ActivPack server line. The enhanced server enables the large-scale deployments of a wide range of authentication devices including hardware tokens, USB tokens, soft tokens and smart cards. ActivPack is also a reliable and scalable server that enables simultaneous authentications to be performed on multiple servers distributed across the enterprise. This RADIUS, TACACS+ compliant server allows user authentication using dynamic one-time-passwords in both synchronous and asynchronous mode.

It also enables automatic routing of authentication requests to other servers or directories containing user credentials, thus easing the migration path from legacy systems. ActivPack provides automatic synchronization between the ActivPack database and the LDAP directory services such as Microsoft® Active Directory(TM), Novell® NDS® eDirectory(TM), iPlanet(TM) Directory Server and Oracle® Internet Directory. Another advancement of this server is that it ensures high availability through its 'hot stand-by server' feature, avoiding any interruption to service by automatically switching to the second server. Roaming is also a key feature, enabling users to successfully complete authentication while away from their local office.

The server's administration consoles enable role-based management allowing corporations to reduce the cost of user management and at the same time streamline internal business processes. The server is interoperable with the leading network solutions including Check Point(TM) VPN-1/FireWall-1®, Cisco Systems® Secure PIX(TM) Firewall and VPN concentrators, as well as Nortel Networks(TM) Contivity and F-Secure® VPN+.

``This next generation version of our ActivPack server enables us to meet the needs of today's enterprise for a strong, two-factor authentication solution for large-scale deployments in heterogeneous environments,'' said Mario Diaz, Senior Product Manager, ActivCard.
