I saw in a Post column a couple of days ago that there was a controversy in journalistic circles over the fact that journalists, especially in the electronic media, got caught up in the celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Their objectivity was compromised. Of course, why one would expect neutrality about the fall of a tyrannical regime, or the reunion of Berlin beats me. Would we expect Ernie Pyle to be neutral as between our troops and the one's shooting at them, or Edward R. Murrow to review the Reich's point of view during the Blitz? There is a sense of elementary decency in reaction to certain events. Sometimes it seems appropriate to make it clear what side you are on......
