In case you're interested China has been the wild card when it comes to supply and demand of various metals. In respect to silver, China has been dumping "off-spec" silver into the market for quite sometime. "Off-spec" is great for silverware but not much else - unfortunately it dictates the going price of all silver.

Both Kodak and Polaroid are being killed by cheap Chinese throw-away cameras. As for the digital camera argument, -- Kodak threw itself at what it thought was the high-end to avoid the Chinese imports, and only found that the competition is even stiffer -- with much higher r&d costs.

How does silver fit into all of this? Its use in photography is actually going up!
