Ten,

re: Funny how AMD is trying to come up with arbitrary performance numbers at a time when performance only matters to those suffering from "Hot Rod" syndrome. And the hotrodders already know the real story behind clock speed, "quantispeed," and performance, so AMD's marketing stunt is pointless to begin with.

Performance still matters, just not as much. Otherwise microprocessors would be a true commodity market, with everyone buying strictly on price.

It's like buying gas. Most people buy the Blue (regular), but their are enough folks to buy the Silver or Gold (premium) to make a difference. What grade of gas you buy probably depends more on your self image than on a perceived difference in performance, same with microprocessors. At least you can trust the Octane rating (QuantaOctane?).
