Six U.S. planes land at Jacobabad airport: local daily
Islamabad, Oct 17, IRNA -- Security measures at Jacobabad airport
were further beefed up in the wake of the arrival of six M-15 jet
planes, the Pakistani daily `Dawn' said on Wednesday.
It quote local people as saying that six U.S. planes landed at
the airport in the wee hours of Monday. The planes were in continuous
activity from 2am to 6am, it added.
The Rangers pickets set up around the airport were reinforced and
more pickets were also set up on the rooftops of houses, the newspaper
explained.
The airport area was the scene of some very furious anti-U.S.
demonstrations last week that claimed one life and injured many
others in clashes with the police.
A local religious organization had then threatened to lay siege
on the airport if U.S. troops did not leave the airport within a
week.
It may be mentioned here that the Pakistani government has
repeatedly denied the alleged presence of U.S. troops and also
clarified that no attacks have been launched from Pakistani bases.
Pakistan is committed to cooperating with the world coalition on
the war against terrorism in intelligence sharing, logistics support
and sharing of airspace.
There has been a long chain of fierce anti-U.S. demonstrations in
Pakistan and many other countries in recent days.
