The way the Nazis "won" the 1933 election was by putting their opponents into jail, prison and concentration camps via a device called the Reichstag Fire Decree signed by a senile Hindenberg. After Hitler seized power, he abolished the Reichstag - no more silly things like law for him. That's not what most people call "winning" an election. You were right - it was a raw seizure of power, not a popular elected government.
