Thanks for your post. If Germans are privitizing to meet the 3% deficit limit imposed by the EU, I would imagine the French would want or need to do the same. Do you have any idea how it would affect FT if they're not allowed to privatize? Isn't it essential in order to deregulate? If I remember the WTO agreement correctly, there are certain deadlines that companies must meet if they want to maintain their membership in the organization. And should Jospin and his new government throw up roadblocks, won't it hinder France from becoming competitive in the telecommunications arena --- as well as other areas? For example, if the government continues to control telecommunications, their rates for Internet connections no doubt would remain high and therefore put an undue burden on companies to compete in any Internet-related commerce or even to compete with companies who are using intranets as a competitive advantage.

A long way around saying I'm concerned about France's new government and what it might do to their telecommunications industry.

Regards,

Pat
