They are not using a typical numeric keypad phone are they?

My guess is that there are some PDA-type devices and PCIA cards being sold but the vast majority of devices are still handsets with keypads. Prior to 1x, Korea was seeing data usage slightly above the US, but nothing like Japan.

This is why Korea is a pretty good test market for the US/Europe. It is still an open question if 1xrtt/GPRS will be able to stimulate data usage. Thus far, data usage on 1x handsets has seen a pretty good increase (I think it is 3 times off a low base)....but I think we need to see more data to see if this surge is just due to early-adopters.

It is also going to be crucial to see how new content is developed for the capabilities of the 1x handsets. BREW and Java applications are being developed and are probably going to be deployed in the next couple of months. The wireless industry needs to see a second country have the same explosion that Japan had with the introduction of i-mode.

One country is an aberration....two is a trend.
