According to my notes from the Q2 cc, Mr Siebel was
comfortable with analysts projections for Q3 of $250 - $300M
in license revenue and EPS of 0.14. There is no question
that this is an extremely difficult business environment
and I don't find fault with Siebels Q3 numbers. What bothers
me is that Siebel most certainly knew in late September that
the numbers would be on the low side, yet did not make any
preannouncements.
I don't believe that the stock price would be much different today
if they had warned. However,
Siebel has lost some trust in the mind of this stock holder
and perhaps the street. I listened to yesterdays cc in which
the Q4 outlook was projected to be better than Q3. I think
that information would be more credible if Siebel
had done a better job of communicating the Q3 results sooner.
The net result could be a slower recovery of the
stock price.
