<<I'd like the efficient public-transit system of Paris in my city, thank you. >>

Tucson has a rather good public-transit system, IMO, although they've made some cut-backs just recently so my intelligence may not be timely. <g>

I thought Kingsolver did a wonderful job of expressing her perspective. I don't happen to agree with it, but I found it thoughtful, articulate, and not at all unreasonable.

She does make one point that resonates with me. I worry about the strong element of vengeance in the US actions. I'm much too pragmatic and results oriented. I want our old way of life back and I would hope that, whatever we do, it's aimed at that rather than blood lust. Perhaps we can get a twofer. That's fine with me. I just would hate to see us suboptimize vengeance at the expense of a lasting peace. I can see the potential for a twofer in the actions being taken so I am hopeful, but I always fear that vengeance will distract us from doing what's smart.
