In theory, an analyst makes a call on a stock after researching the company's products and business model, and taking into account market conditions.

If a company is expected to grow at a certain rate (based on the insight of this particular analyst) then using simple ratios, a target price is arrived at.

I don't think some analysts have had a very good track record.
I always wonder what benefit the analyst or his company derives from his call. It seems unlikely to me that these analysts are being altruistic with their advice.

I am hoping that this thread won't become a place to pick on any particular company. The thread is here to throw some light on the quality of the Analysts, and their calls.

I couldn't find a current source for the article quoted in the post.

It raises some of the questions that have raised my hackles.
