The RQ-1 knows where it is in lat, long and altitude. The predator know where it is looking. RQ-1 know where it is from GPS satellites. This is communicated with a ground station that has topology data of the entire world. Simple Triangulation can compute the lat and long of any point on the ground. But also as the RQ-1 moves it looks at the same point from different point and this can be used also to computer the exact point that it is looking at. Or the the distance to a point it is looking at.

This page speak of how looking from different points are used to compute elevation. watman.com
this figure explain how multi point look is used to compute information.

The moving RQ-1 by looking over time has what is called synthetic stereo vision and this can compute distance very accurately.

The series of images or taken by the RQ-1 and the fact that the location and the geometry of the image is known will allow ground station or any flying larger compute platforms to know exactly where anything on the ground is.

Also this imagery can be fed to other computers to do automatic target recognition.

The above is just ways the information from the RQ-1 could be used. I guess some or all of the methods I describe are used and even others.
